Day One – The will of God and the promise of God

Day One

Meditation: The will of God and the promise of life
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:1-5,

There are two important messages in the first verse of 2Timothy Chapter One that we are looking at today.
1). Paul’s emphasis that he was an Apostle of Jesus Christ by THE WILL OF GOD.
2). Paul’s reference to THE PROMISE OF LIFE in Christ Jesus as fundamental to his calling and assignment.

Paul did not become an apostle of Jesus Christ out of a personal craving or choice nor fleshly desire for a position or title; he was called by God and he knew it. That was why he said his calling was by the will of God.
Acts 9:15-16 NKJV
[15] But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. [16] For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”

Paul was in the ministry because God wanted it. It was the will of God. Whenever we are doing what God wants, we can boldly say we are in the will of God. God wants his children to always follow him and do his will. Doing the will of God is doing what pleases him, what gives him joy. This can be with respect to who you marry, what job you do, how you spend your money, whom you support  financially etc. God wants you to walk in his will, to pray according to his will and do all things in accordance with His will so that you can please him with your life like apostle Paul.

1 John 5:14 KJV
[14] And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

How can we know the will of God? The primary way to know the will of God is through the scriptures. The scriptures contain God’s written will and God does all things in accordance to the advice of his will.
Ephesians 1:11 KJV
[11] In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

This means if you position yourself in line with his will then you will please Him and whenever you ask Him anything in line with his will, it is certain that He will give it to you.
His written will therefore must guide everything we do in life.

Are you doing what you are doing by the will of God? Check your life out and be in the line of God’s will.

The next message from Paul in this verse one is the fact that he knew the purpose of his calling and assignment. He was called to be an apostle in order to tell others about the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus. In the King James Version it reads “according to the promise of life”. The word “according” can be translated as “with respect unto”. Apostle Paul knew the reason he was called. It was in respect to the promise of life which is in Christ and for that purpose he was sent to others. By “life” it means “eternal life” which God has promised to those who come to Him through his son Jesus Christ.
John 3:14-15 NKJV
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, [15] that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 10:27-28 NKJV
[27] My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. [28] And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

John 17:1-3 NKJV
[1] Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, [2] as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. [3] And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Romans 6:23 NKJV
[23] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 2:25 NKJV
[25] And this is the promise that He has promised us-eternal life.

1 John 5:11-13 NKJV
[11] And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. [12] He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. [13] These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

We have the promise of eternal life- this is the life of God and it is in his son, Jesus Christ. Anyone who comes to Jesus receives eternal life and on the last day will receive eternity with God. This is the message that God has given to us which Paul also preached, that there is a promise of life in Jesus Christ to whosoever believes. That life is received now and eternity with God is guaranteed if he continues in the faith to the end.

Colossians 1:21-23 NKJV
[21] And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled [22] in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight- [23] if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

You therefore have a duty to first receive the promise of life, then preach the promise of life and thirdly retain the promise of life by continuing in the faith to the end.

1. Pray that you will have the revelation and understanding of God’s will for your life in every area
2. Pray for willingness and boldness to walk in the will of God for your life
3. Pray that you will find joy and satisfaction in doing God’s will and pleasing Him
4. Pray that you will know and understand the purpose of God for your life and ask God for courage to be able to stay in that purpose
5. Pray that you will receive and hold on to the promise of life in Jesus to the end
6. Pray that you will boldly and joyfully tell others about the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus.

Faith Confession
1. I declare that God raised me for his purpose and that I will walk in his will and purposes for my life
2. I receive the revelation and understanding of divine purposes for every area of my life in the name of Jesus.
3. I declare that I will walk in the will of God for my life as I discover it and that I will be content and joyful to walk in it in the name of Jesus
4. I have received the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus and I declare that I will continue in the faith so that at the end I will inherit eternity with God.
5. I make a commitment to tell the world that there is a promise of life in Christ Jesus and I receive grace in Jesus name. Amen.
