THE POWER AND BENEFIT OF PRAISE

July is the Seventh month of the year, and the number 7 stands for Sabbath meaning “Rest”. God rested on the 7th day from his work of creation, from his labor. May God grant you rest in is 7th month from all your struggles and pains and delays in Jesus name!

In Genesis 1:31, God looked at all that He had made and saw that it was very good. That was the end of the sixth day. Then he rested on the seventh day. He found satisfaction and rested. May God bring you to your state of satisfaction and rest in Jesus name!

The number 7 also stands for perfection and completeness. I prophesy over you that in this month of July may God make all his work in you complete and perfect; may your miracles be complete and perfect, may his intervention in your situation be complete and perfect in Jesus name.

This month is our month of Praise Celebration.

Praise is to lift up your voice to talk or sing in appreciation or commendation of someone.

Giving praise to God is giving appreciation and commendation to Him.
It is an act of gratitude to God in appreciation of what He has done either for you personally or what you can see that he has done globally.

Giving praise is also an act of faith in God for what He is yet to do, for what you are asking Him to do and for what is ahead of you.

To celebrate is to rejoice and to share with others your joy, your happiness and testimonies over what you have experienced. May you celebrate God this month in praise in Jesus name.

1. God desires and wants our praise

A) He dwells where there is praise

Psalm 22:3-5 (KJV)
“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. [4] Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. [5] They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.”
We see that:
1. the children of Israel understood that God dwells in praise.
2. And they always used praise to bring God into their situations and circumstances.
3.  They trusted in the power of praise and God delivered them and they were not confounded

B) the children of Israel understood that God dwells in praise and releases power in them

Psalm 67:3-7 (KJV)
“Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. [4] O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. [5] Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. [6] Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. [7] God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.”

Hear what King David is saying in this Psalm. He said
a. When we praise God, He releases His righteous judgment over the situation for which we praise Him.

b. When we praise Him, the earth will release her increase. So praises bring down divine harvests and prosperity

c. When we praise Him, He blesses us.

I invite you to praise the Lord this month every day and he will send judgment over your situation and make your businesses to yield increase and pour you mighty blessings.

2. We must face challenges with praise
The children of Israel and the disciples of Jesus understood this principle very well hence they always gave praise to God in their difficult situations. Let’s look at some examples

A) when they were fighting for Jericho

Joshua 6:1-5 (KJV)
“Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. [2] And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. [3] And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. [4] And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. [5] And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.”

Jericho had been given to them yet the gates were shut. God wanted them to fight for it. They also were prepared to fight for it and believed that God would fight for them.

They faced the battle with the ark of covenant carrying the law inside it. They also fought the battle with praise – blowing trumpets and shouting a great shout.

The ark of covenant represents your covenant with God; the Law represents the word of God, the trumpets and shouts represent your praise.

Whatever the situation that confronts you, face it in faith and use your covenant as standing with God, the word of God and your praise. Victory will come!

B) when they were faced with a combination of countries that were mightier than them they went to battle in faith through praise

2 Chronicles 20:4,17 (KJV)
“And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord : even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord . [17] Ye shall not need to fight in this battle : set yourselves, stand ye still , and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.”

They gathered themselves to fast and pray. Prayer with fasting is an effective tool to face life challenges. This month we have 14 days of fasting and prayer from 14 to 27th July. Participate in it daily. Victory will come!

God told them to go to war that he would be with them. They believed God and went with praise; singing into the battle field and God showed up.

As you sing praises this month, may God show up and fight your battle for you in Jesus name.

2 Chronicles 20:18-22 (KJV)
“And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord , worshipping the Lord . [19] And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high. [20] And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. [21] And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord , and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord ; for his mercy endureth for ever. [22] And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.”

They were celebrating in faith believing in the power of faith;
God had promised, they believed, they celebrated and the power of God manifested.

C) Paul and Silas also threw their situation aside and went into celebration and God showed up

We note from Acts 16:14-23 that Paul and Silas had preached the gospel and cast out some evil spirits which resulted in their being arrested and put in jail.

Acts 16:14-23 KJV
“[14] And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us : whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. [15] And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us , saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there . And she constrained us. [16] And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: [17] The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. [18] And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. [19] And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, [20] And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, [21] And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans. [22] And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them . [23] And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely”

A believer serving God is not immune from challenges and difficulties. You may face difficulties in the course of serving The Lord. Don’t let it discourage you but inspire you to give praise to the Lord and ask for a way of escape.

1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
[13] There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Paul and Silas prayed and sang praise to God in their situation. They were singing praises despite their sufferings and also in anticipation of answered prayers.

Acts 16:25 KJV
[25] And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

This must be the believer’s attitude. Don’t give up when things are difficult, don’t curse God, don’t complain. Pray and sing praises. When you do God will show up.

God dwells in praises. He makes his power manifests in praises and he shows up with great power to help and to deliver.

Acts 16:26-28 KJV
[26] And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. [27] And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. [28] But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

For Paula and Silas God showed up in their praises. He came in an earthquake ; he spoke the foundations of what held them and caused the doors to be open.

As you praise him this month, may you experience God’s earthquake to shake off the foundations of your delays , barrenness, sicknesses, frustrations, unemployment etc in Jesus name.

3. How do we praise Him
Psalm 149:1-9 KJV
[1] Praise ye the Lord . Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints. [2] Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. [3] Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. [4] For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. [5] Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. [6] Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand; [7] To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; [8] To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; [9] To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord .

1. Sing to him a new song. – vs 1
God loves new songs. David in Psalm 40 says god has put a new song in my mouth. Lear new songs and sing to The Lord. Walls of Jericho will collapse and you will enter your inheritance.

2.  Praise him in the congregation

3. Praise him with joy and rejoice before him- vs 2

4. Praise Him with dancing

5. Praise him with instruments of worship

6. Praise him around and on your bed – vs 5

7. Praise Him with high praise and with the word. God’s word is the two edged sword. Hebrews 4:12. When you praise him with the word, you cut the enemies asunder.

This month as you praise and celebrate God, may you experience divine help, divne interventions and blessings in Jesus name, amen.
